Congratulations, Plus a Comment or Two From a Fossil

Dear Alan Paine Knitware,

First of all, may I congratulate you on the quality, not only of your products, but also your service? I placed an order late on Christmas Eve and the two jerseys I had requested arrived here this morning, just four days later despite the holiday break.

I don't know if you have ever investigated the age profile of men who buy your Hampshire Classic Fit range of jumpers. I am 74. Like a surprising number of my age group, we like to wear smart V-neck jerseys at casual social occasions, with or without a tie.

Of those I meet, almost to a man we loathe what we call ‘stranglers'. These are V-neck jumpers of the modern fashion with hardly any gap between the bottom of the tie and the top of the V. I suppose we recall with fondness our school days when our jumpers’ V came down to the middle of the chest.

For longsleeved woollen jerseys I have always bought from your Hampshire classic range which, of quality woollen jumpers, have the deepest V-neck that I can find on the market. When asked by contemporaries for my source, I have invariably recommended you.

My plea is that you not raise the height of the V on this wonderful range. If anything go lower still!

I suppose I ought to add that of course one has to expect to pay for quality. But plus of a hundred quid for a jersey is, for my generation, a bit hard to swallow. I tend to wait for special offers, which bring the price down towards a more enticing mouthful.

Yours, with grateful thanks,

Charles Thwaites

Quality, Style, Fit, Durability

Once again Alan Paine sweaters are a cut above all others. I have collected them in various Shetland and lambswool versions and colors for over 45 years. They are still going strong. I finally had to replace my navy lambswool jumper as I lent mine to a friend and they decided they liked it enough to ask me if they could keep it. The new sweater is as great as all others I own and of course looks perfect with casual and dress casual. Excellent fabric, beautifully made and exceptional fit. What more do I need???
